September 30th: Getting to Know Prague

Our expert local guide introduced us to beautiful Prague this morning on an extended walking tour of the city.
We began by exploring the part of the Old Town closest to our hotel , including some important 20th century buildings, then we crossed the Vltava River & rode a tram up 'Castle Hill' to the formidable Prague Castle & St. Vitus Cathedral.
Later we walked down through Mala Strana, the 'Little Quarter', following the famed ‘Royal Mile’ .  During our tour we learned about the city & some of the colorful characters of its long history - astronomers, kings, composers, Communists & revolutionary poets!
This afternoon there was free time - to visit one of the excellent museums or the former Jewish ghetto, or perhaps just to explore the narrow streets & cobbled squares of the Old Town.
This evening we met up to enjoy an included performance of Don Giovanni at the National Marionette Theatre, a memorable opportunity to experience the unique & thriving Czech tradition of puppetry.
